How much does it cost to rent a car in Koh Samui?
Renting a car in Koh Samui can cost from 450 THB (roughly $13-14) per day for an older small car.
At the top end you can expect to pay up to 155,000 THB (roughly $4,450) per day for a luxury super sports car like a Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4.
Do I need to rent a car in Koh Samui?
Renting a car on Samui can open up the island for exploration. There is quite a lot of Samui that isn't in the main tourist/resort areas.
If you are the type of person that likes to explore then a car will give you the freedom to go where you want, when you want.
Samui's public transport options are limited and hard to negotiate for tourists. Public hire vehicles are available, yet common complaints are high prices and lack of availability.
Can foreigners rent a car in Thailand?
Yes, foreigners are welcome to hire cars in Thailand. It is advised to make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance and to make sure your rental car has 1st class insurance.
To drive in Thailand you are advised to bring an international driving licence, however many countries' licences are recognised here. On a foreign licence you are able to drive up to 90 days in any one stay.
